"Under the Brooklyn Bridge, East River" by Charles F. W. Mielatz, Amer., (1864-1919)
Etching, 1892, published in a New York Etching Club Annual Catalogue likely 1890's, 5 x 6-7/8, on cream laid paper, signed in the plate. This small plate manages to convey the monumentality of the Brooklyn Bridge, enhanced by Mielatz's mastery of value in etching lines both bold and delicate with shades in between to convey distance and atmosphere. This print is not commonly seen, but then the artist was quite prolific. I'm surprised to still encounter fine prints by him I've never seen before after many years. Some time staining, one tiny repaired edge tear left margin and crease to lower left corner, a little toning to the edges.
