"Torrington, December" (Connecticut) by Dennis Callahan, Amer., (20th Century)

Regular price $275

Color Silkscreen, Ed. A/P11/15, 8" x 10", signed, titled and numbered in pencil, on gray wove Somersett watermarked paper, a 1/8" wide strip of old adhesive residue along top margin edge, a few small spots of foxing lower right under penciled title, large  original margins, image and colors fresh and pristine. No reference to Callahan comes up in an internet search, but a recent visitor to my booth at Papermania in Hartford believes this print was comissoned circa 1985 by the owners of the defunct O'Leary-Jacbson Gallery in Torrington; further research hopefully will reveal more about this artist.  A subtle and sophisticated Pop Art treatment of a local CT subject. Notice the plus signs denoting snowflakes changing direction to suggest shifts in the light and wind. Downtown Torrington still retains it's mid-century industrial and commercial appearance, hosting such cultural institutions as the Nutmeg Ballet, Warner Theater, and Five Points Art Gallery, as well as diverse and eclectic shops which give this CT town it's charming and vibrant character.
