"Mother and Child" by Frank Herbert Mason, (Amer., 1921-2009)
Frank Herbert Mason, (Amer., 1921-2009), Mother and Child, Lithograph, 1971, Ed. of 25, signed, titled snd numbered in pencil, on warm white wove paper. Frank Mason was a legendary teacher of painting at the Art Student's League in New York, who inherited the mantle from Frank Vincent Dumond, his own teacher there. Mason had the distinct honor of painting eight paintings on the life of St. Anthony of Padua, for the church of San Giovanni de Malta in Venice, and received the Cross of Merit from the Order of Malta, an honor last bestowed on Carravaggio. His painting The Resurrection of Christ, hangs in Old St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. There is also an English painter named Frank Mason, known for his maritime paintings and travel posters, whom I also have a small drypoint by. Our American Frank Herbert Mason's prints, all lithographs that I'm aware of, are not commonly encountered, and this edition is a small one.
