Amos Langdown, South African, (1930-2006), Woman Preparing Fish, Woodcut, 1962, 15-9/16 x 10-7/8, Ed. of 3/6, on cream japan paper, signed in pencil. Slight foxing and handling creases in margins. Langdown was a prominent South African painter and also a masterful and prolific printmaker, who favored native South African subjects in his work. He won a grant from the South African governmet to study abroad in Holland, and had a distinguished career as an art educator as well. The bold economy of his design and his use of the wood grain make for a graphically powerful woodcut. One of his finest prints, and quite rare.
