Portrait of Chauncey Ryder Keith Shaw Williams, Amer., (1906-1951)
Etching, 1940, 7-15/16 x 5-15/16, two old brown paper tape hinge remnants to top margin, a line of matburn, initialed and dated 1940 in the plate to right of neck, signed, titled, dedicated & dated in pencil "60 To Bob Nesbit with love and kisses KSW Mar 6 1941" and titled "Chauncey Ryder" in pencil lower left margin corner. Keith Shaw Williams may have misspelled his friend Robert Nisbet's last name in his penciled dedication, but his draftsmanship, with it's subtle evocation of light playing over the features of Chauncey Ryder's contemplative face in this excellent portrait need no apology! A fine impression on a sheet of medium cream wove paper, with uneven but full and adequate margins, 10-3/4 x 7-7/8. Nice with the playful dedication to Nisbet. $300
