"God First," by Charles Turzak, (Amer.,1899-1986)

Color Woodcut, 1958, Ed. of 100 plus , 8-1/2 x 11, printed in a soft green ink with the text in black, on cream laid japan paper, original small but full margins  as issued, signed in the block and in pencil, with some light toning within the previous mat opening. Charles Turzak was a well respected Chicago artist who excelled at woodcut and produced several prints which are today revered as classic depression era masterworks. The two colors used here are well suited to each other, and the design reminds one of the great Eric Gill.
