"Girl with Bird" by Seong Moy, Chinese-Amer., (1921-2013)

Color Woodcut, ca. 1950, ed. of 9 , 31-1/8 x 9-7/8, signed, dated, titled and numbered in pencil, on thin cream japan paper, the colors exceptionally bright and unfaded. The margins retain creases and glue stains where previously folded under and adhered to mount, and there are a few breaks and minor edge losses, mostly to the upper left corner. Despite these condition issues, the margins as visible when matted are mostly clean and fresh, and this large, rare and spectacular print by Moy is not commonly seen. Seong Moy's striking abstract mid-century color prints were recently the subject of a career retrospective at Syracuse University, but the significance and beauty of his rich body of work is still under appreciated.
