Sketch: Toledo, F. 305, Demo series 69, 1937, 1st. state ed. 25, there was also a 2nd. state ed. of 8, 6-15/16 x 4-15/16, signed and extensively inscribed in pencil by Arms, dedicated to George Nelson, this imp. on cream laid paper. An etched note in the lower left corner of the plate states that it was completed in 2-1/2 hours.

Harkness Tower, Yale University, Etching, 1939 or earlier, ed. probably 100, 8-7/8 x 6-15/16, signed, dated and dedicated in pencil, in the plate, on buff laid PRAGA watermarked paper with small margins as printed, two small lightened area top margin edge from previous tape hinges, A fine impression of this wonderful view of the Yale landmark in downtown New Haven, CT. Balthazar was a Yale Law School graduate, class of 1915. In 2010 a selection of prints by the artist was exhibited in "Travelers Tales" an exhibition of work by American printmakers based in Connecticut, held at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury.

Bois de Finge, lithograph, ca. 1851, edition unknown, one of twenty landscape subjects from Sites Varies de Paysages par Calame, published in Paris by Francois Delarue, 1846-50, 16 x 11-15/16, signed in the stone with the scratched signature at lower left, title and publication text in the margin below image, on cool white wove paper. Calame was the premiere Swiss master of landscape lithography in the 19th century. His formidable gifts as a prolific painter and printmaker are long overdue for a scholarly re-evaluation in America.

That Daumier was known to indulge in a little black humour, albeit moral or political, is an understatement. His humour retains it's sharp edge today as in his own.

The image area is fresh save for two small pale stains to lower right image corner. The margins appear full and original, with two short repaired edge tears at left and right bottom edge, small creases at corners, and a tiny loss to tip of bottom right corner. Henri de Toulouse Lautrec also contributed 11 prints to this same portfolio.

Tugboat at the Pier, (N.Y. Harbor). Watercolor and Pencil, 1942, 19-5/8 x 24-1/2, signed & dated in pencil, on a full sheet of J. Green & Son white watercolor paper. old mat line, foxing to sky and some fading of blue pigment, noticable under edges of mat. This large and dynamic precisionist watercolor of an iconic N.Y. Tugboat was previously exhibitied by the American Watercolor Society. Included is a 1940's-50's typed exhibition label from Art for Industry/New York held at 663 5th Ave. Works by Powell are in the collections of the Smithsonian, Brooklyn Museum and Butler Institute, among others.

I have seen no other aquatint by the artist.
