Robert Gwathmey (1903-1988) |
End of Day, Color Silkscreen, 1944, ed. unknown, 12-1/4 x 14-1/8, signed faintly in the screen, at lower right, on thin smooth cream paper. There are large printing creases in the top margin center, and numerous areas of light rubbing and wrinkling from removal of the original glued overmat and mount. Despite this the margins are full and original. The image retains some cockling and a couple of tiny printing flaws and minor scratches; a small ink loss at the upper left corner, and a grayish spot on the nose, and scratch from the left shoulder into the background of the of the foremost figure, these flaws being most evident in the raking light by which this photograph was taken. This impression is from the estate of Hyla Coleman, a well known leftist author and friend to many New York artists, who recieved this print as a gift from the artist many years ago. $2,500 |
